About ‘Can Do’ for Veterans

AGPN has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Veteran’s Affairs (CVA) to adapt the core ‘Can Do’ materials to focus on the mental health and substance use issues experienced by veterans and their families and carers.

Can Do’ for Veterans intentionally builds apon the core ‘Can Do’ training and will follow the same training modules:

  • 'Teams of Two' national networking co morbidity module
  • Can Do’ clinical education co morbidity module.
However, education and training in ‘Can Do’ for Veterans will have a veteran focus.

Veteran specific case studies and support materials have been developed for the veteran training component and are available below. These materials are to be used together with the current 'Teams of Two' and clinical education materials, which are also available in both web based and CD Rom formats.

DVA requested that these materials remain very similar to the core materials, but with additional case studies and resources and a presence/presentation by Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) staff. This was done in order to emphasise that veterans and their family members experience very similar mental health and substance use issues as the general populations, and to emphasise the importance of asking the question ‘have you or a member of your family ever served in the defence force?’.
